Meandering through VC, near the Hunter Townhouse (sometimes) [open]

It'd been prickling in the back of his mind over and over, really; ever since meeting the human boy, Netto -- and then that other Zero -- Serin had been curious about the Hunters. Of course, X had said that he was supposed to avoid them; but nothing he heard on the newsfeeds ever seemed to show any reason to be concerned ...

Said curiosity (warring with wanting to not upset X) thus kept Serin wandering through the local neighbourhoods as the afternoon wore on, shuttling between a nearby corner cafe and the Hunter property -- and periodically stopping in front of the townhouse and watching as if half-expecting to suddenly see a burst of activity.

The next time he makes a pass by the townhouse, there's a male-shaped reploid leaning against a lamppost approximately across the road from it.

Blue eyes under an unruly frop of black hair flick to Serin as he approaches, and X smiles in amusement to see someone who looks a bit like a short Zero approaching.
Smiles -- of any kind -- are only encouraging for Serin, who picked up his pace a bit to join this new person. The resemblance to X just added to his interest.

"Are you watching them too?"

As he spoke, he gestured towards the townhouse.
Serendipitously, X's smile got more encouraging and friendly when Serin actually approached.

"Them? If you mean the RV Hunters, the answer is 'more or less'." He gestured fluidly at the townhouse before tucking his hand back in the pocket of his jeans. "My elder brother works in there, I'm waiting for him to take a break so I can buy him lunch."

X tilted his head to one side, curious. "Why are you watching them?"
"Yes, the Hunters -- that is the right place then, good! And, you have a brother with them ...?"

Looking from X to the townhouse and then back to X, Serin mirrored X's headtilt and paused a moment before diving into his explanation.

"Because I want to see. I'm not really supposed to be here near them, but I don't understand why ... I've met some of them, and it seems alright ...?"
"Yep, it's the right place!" X confirmed, cheerfully. "My brother -- his name is Blues -- works part of the time as a Navigator for them. Someone who co-ordinates and supplies information to Hunters who are out and about on business."

X could think of two reasons someone would warn Serin away from Hunters right on the spot, and one of them he didn't much like.

"Do you know why you're not supposed to get near them?" he asked, curiously.
"Because they cause problems and torment X in his own world -- and in this world, they took someone away from him."

Clearly, Serin had no problem explaining this; even more clearly, maybe he should have had a problem with explaining this.

But -- being quite oblivious to that fact -- he continued on.

"But I don't really understand it. Maybe it's different here? It doesn't seem to be a problem here."

"Do they make your brother stay against his will?"
Any number of reasons for an X to be having problems with the Hunters of an alternate Earth occurred to X, including the Hunters still being in Sigma's grip after going Maverick, or X not getting away with nearly so many of the stunts he himself had.

"I think it is different here. In fact, I know the Hunters are different in this world from the ones in mine. And no, Blues isn't here against his will." He chuckled. "Blues doesn't do things against his well, ever. He actually works full time in our world as a Navigator, but when things get slow there, he and our friend Layer come here now and then to help out."

He held out his hand to Serin.

"And I would be happy to tell you about the Hunters from my world, seeing as I am one. My name is also X."
"Then I don't understand why they would've taken anyone away. I don't know if it makes sense? -- But he wouldn't lie to me ..."

"But it doesn't sound as if --"

Cutting himself off with a little toss of his head and brief grinding of fangs, Serin dismissed that train of thought as confusion-inducing and therefore not worth trying much longer. X's offer, on the other hand, prompted a squeak of surprise -- and a quick acceptance of the offered hand.

"You're X? But you have blue eyes. ... But then I'm not what I maybe used to be ..."

Slender fingers tightened on X's hand, just a little.

"My name is Serin."
"Well, I suppose that depends on what you mean by 'taken away'."

X shook Serin's hand, blinking at those grinding fangs.

"Pleased to make your acquaintance, Serin. And yes, I have blue eyes." He smiled. "What colour are you used to? Because I can tell you that I know blonds with long hair somewhat like yours, and fangs, and they usually don't have blue eyes, but you do."
"I don't know more than that; the Hunters didn't want him with X, so they took him from him and convinced him that that was the right thing to do."

Said fangs were almost more like Forte's, really; conical and heavy and rather out of place in the wee heart-shaped face ...

Serin's answer was prompt enough.

"Green. Bright like yours, but green. Who do you know? Zero?"
"Hmm. I don't suppose this someone was Zero?" X asked, thinking of someone trying to convince Zero that it would be better for X if he weren't around. There were a few points it would have had a chance of working... Not that he had any evidence that that was the situation.

"Green, huh? Yes, I know Zero, and also Forte. My Zero's eyes are more of a teal, and Forte likes his eyes red."
"Yes! It was Zero, but not his Zero; it was someone else that he met here in Reality Vanish. And they turned that Zero against him."

Distracted again, Serin tilted his head and blinked in mild confusion.

"Forte?"

The flit sighs, with a resigned sort of expression that X may find all too familiar on his own face.

[*agreement-fussing*]

*peep!*

"Yes! We found him in the Ruins."

... Yes indeed, magnification seems to be confirming Serin's comment. Visually, at least. Dear god --
"...You go into the ruins and you haven't run into any Hunters?" X began to get a bit of a bad feeling.

[You are very cool. *impressed by tiny detail*]
"I talked to a Zero that was a Hunter once; but that was the only time. I don't usually see anyone there when I'm looking for things to bring back with me."

"X wants me to stay away while the wraith-thing is in there, but it was only a problem once ..."

*peep* [*fuzz ~*]*
X's eyes went wide. He had a really strong suspicion that he knew what Serin was talking about and that... wasn't good.

"I think maybe you should listen to your friend about this. If you mean what I think you do, it's pretty dangerous. You -- have you encountered it?"

[...Is his perception of dangerous situations impaired, do you think?]
"I ... yes. It was when I met Axl, it came out of the dark and tried to take both of us --"

"But we got away, and it went back into the dark. I haven't seen it after that; but X says his people have heard reports about it still there and stalking people."

[*agreement!*]
"Well, I'm very glad that you got away; hopefully the Axl you met is as good a shot as our Axl is. But yes, it's still in there, hurting people and causing problems. The Hunters have gone after it a few times, and vice versa, from what I've been told."

X turned big, worried eyes on Serin.

"I think you should be very careful out there, Serin."

[Damn it!]
"I try; I bring things with me in case I have to fight. It's easier now. But the Ruins is where I work."

"I need to go there to find things ..."

Distracted by the fluttering, peeping elf, Serin blinked and then deftly caught the small creature, petting his wings and crooning. The little X blinked up at his counterpart through Serin's fingers and flicked shining wings.

[ ? ]
"You work in the Ruins? Are you an adventurer?"

[*concern*]
"Maybe? I salvage things and bring them back to be restored or used in other things. Would that make me an adventurer?"

[*agreement*] *peep*
"Sounds like you're a dungeoneer, really," he said. "Or else you're a junk hound." He winked.

[Do you think there's any way I can help?]
"Maybe that second; I haven't really seen any dungeons. Well, except for maybe part of that lab ..."

*sigh* [*uncertainty*]
The lab things sounds interesting, but X is distracted by an idea, so instead of asking about that, he smiled and asked, "So, what kind of things do you look for in there?"

[Can you send images? Like this? *image of this morning's breakfast*]
Serin blinked, twice; and then began to happily start rattling off some of the various things he'd hunt out and drag home. From the sound of it, he certainly had no qualms about dissecting bodies as well as simply salvaging equipment.

The little X peeped excitedly.
